THE FORMER Minister for Finance,
Mr Basil Mramba has cleaned his hands off that he was not the one who signed
the extended contract with Alex Stewart Government Business Assayers.
Mr Mramba made the remarks
yesterday at Resident Magistrate Court of Kisutu in Dar es Salaam during the
progressiveness of his case where he is accused for misuse of public office and
forgive tax payers which brought 11.7 losses to the government.

Mr Mramba said that while he was
referring to the letter which was allowing Alex Stewart Company to extend their
time which was signed by the Chief Executive of the Company, Dr Enrique Segura and
The Governor of Bank of Tanzania by then who was Mr Daudi Balali.
“The letter which was written in
10th march 2005 aimed to extend time to Stewart Company in auditing
work to mining’s after their good work previously” he stated.
The accused person Mr Mramba as
he was directed by his lawyer, Mr Elisa Msuya, he tried to show different
documents to prove that he was not guilty in the case.
The documents which were given
include the tender bill which requested Alex Stewart Company to submit a
proposal to B.O.T for them to have permission for mining auditing.
Mr Mramba also read a letter
which was showing that the accused person number two who was the Minister for Mining
and Energy, Mr Daniel Yona advising the Former Governor of B.O.T that the contract
with the foreign company must not cause any harm to the country.
“The term of contracts with Alex
Stewart Government Business Sayers must be fair to the country that means the
country must not gain loss from it,” he said the letter was directing that.
During the case prosecutors side
tried to raise objections on the documents offered by the accused side by the
fact that they were not relevant however they were dismissed by the judges.
The case has now postponed to 28th
of November this year where it will be listened again for two days the decision
which followed after the urgent case to one of the judges listening the case
noting that he got an emergency to participate recently.
