PUBLIC CARS FOR PUBLIC

By FRANK KIMARO
Government has continued to call upon workers who have changed the public vehicles plate numbers and replace them with their own, that they must change their registration before the grace period is over on 15th of this month.
The Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works, Dr John Ndunguru made the remarks during the press conference prepared to alert again those who have register public cars with their private plate number to change the registration at Ministry offices yesterday.
Dr Ndunguru said that the ultimatum time remaining for those who have monopolizing state vehicles is so limited and they should start to change the registration willingly before strong measures facing them.
“We will start a special operation after 12 days and we will impound vehicles and take measures to those who have refused to re-register their public cars as it was intended by the government,” he said.
He further explained that there will be no any blame because they were given a three weeks period since it was announced by the Minister of Works, Dr John Magufuli.
“On 19th October this year Minister met with press where he asked all those who use Public Cars without recognized order and law from the government they should start registering themselves in order where he gave three weeks period,” he quoted the Minister of Works.
Dr Ndunguru tried to explain on rule which give his ministry power to make sure they keep public cars in a good order and making sure they are used as it was intended by the government.
“The Road Safety Act No. 30 of 1973 gives authority to the ministry of works to register and to keep informations of all public cars which will be given number starts with JW,PT,ST and DFP while MT was added in to The Road Traffic Rules, 2012,”He referred to the documents.
Dr Ndunguru stated that it is not the first time for the ministry to conduct such operation saying that it has ready happen in past years and good number of people was arraigned to the court.
“In between 2002 and 2004 the operation was conducted where 21,000 cars, motorcycles and machines were caught, so we have experienced the operation before,” he stated.
