NO COMMITMENT TO LOCAL ENGINEERS

 By Frank Kimaro
LOCAL engineers have been urged to commit themselves in the work they are given by the government rather than doing it partially and bring loss to the government.

The Dar es salaam Regional Commissioner, Mr Said Meck Sadiki made the remarks during the launching of first engineers annual week in Dar es salaam yesterday which will reach it`s climax on Friday this week.

The engineers annual week, which goes under theme “enhancement of local capacity for national development” aims at promoting local engineers all over the country.

Mr Sadick said a good number of Tanzanian engineers are working partially without fulfilling their responsibility especially when they are employed by the government causing complains from the citizens.
“Some engineers are employed by the government, given everything they want for the accomplishment of their job but what they produce does not correspond to money invested,” he said.

Mr Sadick noted that engineers have a great responsibility for the development of a nation and different sectors depend on them including Agriculture, Infrastructure, Air lines and even  Industries therefore they must know their role in developing the nation.

“The development of our nation depend on you more than you think, You must unite together for the development of a nation without fearing competition in market there we will get the best products of your work,” he said to engineers.

On his part the president of the Institution of Engineers Tanzania (IET), Dr Malima Bundara said they understand their role in developing the nation and that`s why they are starting to empower young engineers so that they can gain momentum on their field.

“Now we have embarked on a project to empower young engineers all over the country. However, the role of government is to create good environment for us and to ensure we abide law,” he said.

Mr Bundara further pointed out that there are almost 12,000 engineers all over the country and among them the number of those who are employed or employ themselves is low because a good number of projects are taken by foreigners.

Mr Bundara explained that this week will give education to engineers on how they can master their field and they will visit different areas to teach people how to use their environments diligently.
